Behind the Moonwalk (Controversy)
September 25th, 2009Perhaps one of the most talked about artists of all time, Michael Jackson was never a stranger to controversy. His dazzling musical achievements were constantly being talked about and scrutinized, so it only became natural that people turned their focus on the man himself. While some stories were true, many stories were seldom confirmed or denied by Jackson or his publicists. Despite many situations of silence, the stories continued to come and continued to keep Jackson’s name in doubtful lights.
In the mid-80s, Michael Jackson’s skin began to turn lighter. He and his doctors claimed that he suffered from vitiligo, a skin disease which partially lightens the skin. Through treatment and application of pancake makeup, Jackson’s skin was very pale. This raised a racial issue for the star. People questioned the illness and claimed that he wanted to be white. Along with this, his plastic surgery procedures on his nose and chin caught media attention. The story that he wanted to completely change his appearance was very controversial. Later, the media claimed that Jackson was addicted to plastic surgery because of his repeated nose jobs. Read the rest of this entry »
Pop Royalty’s Children (current)
September 25th, 2009As if it isn’t enough that Michael Jackson was almost constantly followed by the media and the press, his children now have to suffer the same lifestyle. Jackson’s three children, Prince Michael Jackson I and Paris Michael Katherine Jackson (both by Debbie Rowe), and Prince Michael Jackson II (had via surrogate and also known as Blanket) now have to suffer as well. Their controversial father lived a life under a lot under media scrutiny and now it seems they inherited the same problem.
The children’s paternity has always been questioned by the media. Since Jackson was believed to be homosexual, his fathering three children did not coincide with the media’s view on his sexuality. His short lived marriages were thought to be publicity stunts or shams. Since his death in June of 2009, one person has already stepped forward claiming to be the father of Paris Jackson. However, Debbie Rowe insists that Paris is Michael’s daughter and that she and Michael had a real marriage. Read the rest of this entry »
Beyond the White Glove (Influence)
September 25th, 2009Known for music, dance, and controversy, Michael Jackson was one of the most influential artists the world has ever seen. From the time he started his career as a six year old member of the Motown group, The Jackson Five, to his unexpected death just two weeks before his final world tour, Michael Jackson’s influence on the the world was as unexpected as his death. Though more subtle than his passing, the legacy he left is noticed to this day.
To the world of fashion, Michael Jackson contributed the ever famous single white glove, the white socks with black dance shoes, and glittery and chic men’s clothing. Both his white glove and socks became fashion statements in the 80′s and 90′s. While his style of clothing also made a splash, it was his jacket fashion that can still be seen today. Michael popularized the glittery and adorned jacket, often appearing on stage in more than one type for a single concert. To this day, many artists continue to wear fashion jackets, and the styles Michael started have trickled down to a large part of society. Read the rest of this entry »

The Man in the Mirror (Charity Work)
September 25th, 2009Unknown to many people because of his controversial life, Michael Joseph Jackson, pop icon and music star was one of the most charitable people in the entertainment industry. His charitable works most notably began during the 1984 performance at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles for Pepsi Cola, pyrotechnics accidentally set Michael’s hair on fire. He suffered second-degree burns and needed plastic surgery to cover the scars.
